for using Maurchess.

01The service

Maurchess is an unofficial, native iOS client for the free chess service at Lichess.org. It lets you sign in to your existing Lichess account and use Lichess features — games, puzzles, chat, profile — through a native interface. The App provides the interface; Lichess provides the service.

02Not affiliated with Lichess

Maurchess is an independent project. It is not developed, endorsed, sponsored, certified, or operated by Lichess, the Lichess non-profit, or its authors. Names, logos, and content referenced in the App belong to their respective owners and are used only to identify the service the App connects to.

03Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the App, or older if your country sets a higher minimum age for consenting to online services. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use the App only with the involvement of a parent or guardian, who agrees to these terms on your behalf. Lichess sets its own age requirements for accounts.

04Your Lichess account

A Lichess account is required. Your account and everything associated with it — games, ratings, chat, follows, blocks, moderation history — is held by Lichess and governed by the Lichess Terms of Service.

You are responsible for your account credentials and for all activity carried out through the App while signed in. Any suspension, warning, rating adjustment, or other moderation action is issued by Lichess, not by us, and we cannot review, reverse, or appeal it. Account closure is done through Lichess.

05Licence to use the App

We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use one copy of the App on Apple-branded devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Terms of Service. You may not copy, sell, rent, sublicense, distribute, or make the App available to third parties, and you may not remove any proprietary notices. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.

06Acceptable use

You agree not to use the App to:

• Send abusive, threatening, harassing, hateful, sexually explicit, or otherwise unlawful content in chat.
• Cheat by using chess engines, databases, or external assistance during rated play, or otherwise violate the Lichess fair-play policy.
• Impersonate another person, or operate accounts in breach of Lichess's multi-account rules.
• Bypass API rate limits, spam Lichess endpoints, automate play, or otherwise impair Lichess for other users.
• Reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, modify, or tamper with the App, its binaries, or its network communication, except to the extent that right cannot be excluded by law.
• Use the App for any unlawful purpose or in breach of applicable export controls or sanctions.

The App surfaces Lichess's own block and report endpoints. Reports are received and actioned by Lichess. We do not host, review, or moderate any user content, and we have no ability to remove content from Lichess.

We may restrict or discontinue your access to the App if you breach these terms.

07Price and purchases

The App is currently offered free of charge and contains no advertising. If paid features are introduced, they will be sold through Apple's in-app purchase system, and Apple's billing, refund, and subscription-management rules will apply. Lichess itself is free and funded by donations; we do not take payment on its behalf.

08Availability and changes to the App

The App depends on Lichess.org being reachable and stable. We do not guarantee uptime, feature parity with Lichess, or that any particular feature will remain available. Lichess may change or withdraw its API at any time; when that happens, parts of the App may stop working until we ship an update. We may add, alter, or remove features, and may end support for older iOS versions.

09No warranty

The App is provided AS IS and AS AVAILABLE, without warranty of any kind, express, implied, or statutory, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, and freedom from defects or interruption. Use of the App is at your own risk. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you; nothing here limits consumer rights that cannot be waived by law.

10Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, goodwill, or opportunity, arising out of or related to the App — including lost rating points, forfeited or lost games, missed correspondence moves, time lost on the clock, or failed notifications — even if we were advised of the possibility.

Our total aggregate liability for all claims relating to the App will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the App in the twelve months before the claim, which may be zero, or (b) USD 50. Nothing in these terms excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.

11Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claim, demand, loss, or expense, including reasonable legal fees, arising from your breach of these terms, your violation of the Lichess Terms of Service, or content you submit through the App.

12Third-party services and open-source components

The App uses Google Firebase Crashlytics for crash reporting, subject to Google's terms and the Firebase privacy and security terms.

The App includes ChessKit (Apache License 2.0) and Stockfish (GNU General Public License v3.0 or later). Your rights in those components are governed by their own licences, which prevail over these terms where they conflict. Corresponding source for GPL components is available on request. Full attributions are listed in Settings → Acknowledgements.

13Apple App Store terms

These terms are between you and us only, not with Apple. Apple has no obligation to furnish maintenance or support for the App; we are solely responsible for it, and for any claim that the App fails to conform to an applicable warranty, including any refund required by law. We are responsible for addressing any third-party claim that the App or your use of it infringes intellectual property rights.

You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as terrorist-supporting, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties. You must comply with any applicable third-party terms of service when using the App. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of this section and may enforce it against you.

14Termination

You may end this agreement at any time by signing out and uninstalling the App. We may stop supporting the App, individual features, or specific iOS versions at any time. Sections 9 to 11 and 16 survive termination.

15Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. Material changes will be noted in the App's release notes. Continued use of the App after an update constitutes acceptance; if you do not accept, stop using the App.

16Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and the courts of India have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, this does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory consumer law in your country of residence, or of the right to bring proceedings in your local courts where that right is guaranteed.

17General

These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between us regarding the App. If any provision is held unenforceable, the rest remains in force. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not assign these terms; we may assign them in connection with a transfer of the App, with notice on this page.
